Fairies

I do Believe in Fairies

Brooke and Sarah are two of my sorority sisters. Sarah is an art major and needed a photo to base a drawing off of. The drawing needed to be something that had a meaningful interaction between two people. Brooke is Sarah's Big Sister in our sorority, and they have a very close friendship. They came up with the idea of wearing dresses and fairy wings, and basically I just sat back and photographed their interactions. It was wonderful how these photos came out with such a candid feel.

Stumbling upon Fairies

I love how this picture looks like the viewer is peering through the willow branches to happen upon two fairies. The reflections in the water make the are seem so magical and rare, even though it was just a few feet from a street.

Baby and Mama

Before and After

I did Sarah's maternity shoot back in May. I finally got to meet her new baby Brooklyn, now three months old. Unfortunately I was abroad and then sick, so was unable to do a photoshoot until now. When Sarah brought out the dress that we had used in the maternity shoot, I thought it would be a great idea to do the same pose but instead of the empty dress, Brook would be in it. I love the composition and love this picture!

Big Yawn

We had woken Brooklyn up from her nap to do the photoshoot, so she was a little sleepy. I wanted some pictures with Sarah rocking her baby, and absolutely love how this one turned out. Such a peaceful moment.

Holding Hands

Sarah's expression is just pure happiness. I love that Brooklyn is holding her mommy's finger. An absolutely beautiful moment.

Kari and Tim's Wedding

Kisses at Dusk

This was my first wedding to ever shoot. I was very excited about this opportunity and learned a lot during the experience. To get this shot I laid on the ground and shot up to get the beautiful dress in such detail. Overall I'm proud of how the photos turned out, and am looking forward to doing more weddings in the future!

Lacing the Dress

I stayed in the bride's room to photograph the party getting ready while the photographer I work with, Mike, went to photograph the guys. I loved the detailed stitching on the dress, and wanted to photograph the bridesmaids lacing up the dress. They were having a bit of difficulty getting it tight enough, so I had plenty of time to line up the perfect shot.

Details

While the bride was putting on her makeup, I decided to set up a little still life of the details of the wedding. The bridesmaids each held a single red rose, so I placed them on the wedding dress and added the bride's jewelry around them. The details of the wedding were my favorite thing to shoot!

Bride and Groom Champagne Glasses

The bride and groom had special champagne glasses that were engraved with their names and date of the wedding. Red rose petals were all over the table, and I laid the glasses on their side and placed the petals inside them. This is one of my favorite shots of the wedding, and I love how the glass in the foreground is out of the focal field.

Sarah's Maternity Pictures

Little Pink Booties

When I'm too Tired to Fall Asleep

Reflections

This was taken outside of a club in Berlin. We had arrived a little early so we were hanging outside in the beer garden. It was raining gently outside and the tables were reflecting the lights beautifully.
2010

Broken Glass

I love how the natural patterns of the table mix with the bright colored lights. The old and new combination of the broken glass window and the lights make for such an interesting photo.

Rainy City Center

This was taken on a rainy Saturday night in Prague. There weren't many people in the center, which was a first because of how many tourists there are in Prague, and I jumped on the opportunity to get the picture. The cobblestones reflected such a beautiful quality of light and at the same time acted as my tripod for the long exposure.

India

Playground Joy

I met India at school through my track team. After seeing the pictures I did for another girl on the team, she talked to me about having a shoot done. Her boyfriend was leaving and she wanted to do some of the two of them together, while at the same time leaving some room to do some of just herself. She suggested the park and I thought that was such a fun idea. I just love the joy seen on her face in this picture, I think it really shows that no matter the age, swings make a person feel young and free.

Climbing Through

When I saw the lighting in this tunnel, I immediately knew it would be a perfect place to take pictures. The yellow slide illuminated all around India, and brought such a warmth to the picture. I love her smile in this picture, its so beautiful!

Lust

Pounce

This is one of my favorites from the shoot that we did. Ariel and Steven are two of my friends from school, and Ariel is also a model. She has a great wardrobe and spunky personality, and I love how this photo shows both. This photo was shot near the Organ Mountains outside of Las Cruces, NM, and there is a a run down general store on the side of the road. It was a beautiful old building that had great lighting in front of it. Perfect for a photoshoot!

Steven

Gay Pride

The other day I had a photoshoot planned. I was talking about it with my best friend Steven, and asked him if he wanted to come along and perhaps even pose a little. He had just gotten this ring the other day, and wanted to get some pictures with it. Steven has these beautiful blue eyes, and I knew I wanted a picture where the ring was the center of attention. After a little manipulation, I changed the rest of the photo to black and white, and love the effect.

Tiffany in the Park

Graduation

Tiffany and I first started her photoshoot at the park. At first she was a little shy in front of the camera, but once we got over to climb the tree, she really lightened up. I shouted "you're graduating!" and instantly a smile lit up her face. By far one of my favorite shots of Tiffany, her happiness is infectious.
2010

Fun in the Sun

The park we were shooting in had a beautiful old gazebo in the middle that had the most amazing light. I asked Tiffany if she would climb up on the railing, though once she did, we realized that she was too tall for it. She leaned back a little bit and I caught this carefree pose. I love the little details on her lace shirt and how they pop out of the picture.

Tiffany

Gazing off into the Future

Tiffany is a friend of mine from my track team who is graduating this May. She asked me if I would do some graduation photos for her, which I gladly accepted! We found this warehouse while driving around, and the lighting in the area was beautiful. Though I got goatheads in my stomach, I took the pain to get this beautiful shot. I love the expression on her face and the colors of the photo.

America's Next Top Model

This photo was taken at the same warehouse as the one above, only this time Tiffany was standing on the ledge. I love the pop of her red shirt against the pale metal background. Tiffany has a beautiful face and has such an intensity in her eyes. This was one of my favorites for the day!

Danielle

Worn Out Beauty

I recently started working with a local photographer named Mike. He found this model, Danielle off the site modelmayhem, and invited me to come along on the shoot. While Mike was using a softbox and a beauty light, I stayed to the side and tried to work with the natural light available. To my amazement, the light was perfect and beautiful. I love how both the foreground and background are out of focus, really drawing attention in to her intense eyes.

Strike a Pose

After a little bit of shooting, Mike asked me if I wanted to try some pictures with the studio lights. It was one of my first times lighting on location, and I really enjoyed the effect I got. I love the pose that Danielle is in, with her hand paralleled to the pole. The red of the gas pump really makes the picture pop too. This was taken near the pecan orchards of Mesilla, where we found an abandoned gas station.

Miss Daisy

Security Blankie

Who knows what squeaky-toy animal this scrap of fabric came off of. The original toy is long gone, but little Daisy has latched on to this tiny scrap much like a toddler to his baby blanket. When my mom asked me to do pictures of Daisy, she requested a photo of Daisy and her "blankie." I love how the orange sticks out so dramatically against the white fur, and how the scrap is nestled in between Daisy's paws, almost as if she were holding it.
2010

Little Einstein

We've always thought that Daisy had a rather Einstein look to her- her hair is always a mess and always seems to stick out in any which way. This photo was taken with the natural light of the window, and almost created a painterly effect. It has not been manipulated with in any way, simply the reaction of the lighting and the fluffiness of Daisy's fur created the soft edges.
2010

Headshot

This photo and the one above are going to be printed in a diptych manor. I think they compliment each other very well, and both possess the same painterly quality to them. I like how this close-up gets the blue/gray tones of Daisy's eyes, and they seem to peer at you in an almost human-like way.

New York

Last Embrace

I recently got a film-to-digital converter and have been uploading older pictures that I've taken. I do not have access to a darkroom, so it's been really nice to play around with some of my negatives finally. This picture was taken in New York City last Easter, though I don't remember where exactly it was. I love the expression on the man's face though, it is so sincere and full of emotion.

Pinhole Still Life

Coca-Cola Bottle with Flowers

I love pinhole photography. However, I haven't been able to find a darkroom that I can visit, so the traditional film option was not available. The other day when I was changing lenses on my digital camera, I thought about if it would be possible to make some sort of pinhole camera out of it. I found some cardboard from a shoebox and taped it tight to the camera, and found out that it worked fairly well! I think it needs to be tinkered with a little bit more, but I like the result overall.

Juicy Couture Perfume Bottle

Another still life that I set up, this time I tried to incorporate some things that I feel associate with me. This is my favorite perfume bottle, it's beautiful with a big pink bow. I like how the pinhole made a smokey effect on it, the bottle almost disappearing into the darkness.

Campus Informers

You Deserve Hell

This is the third guy this semester who has come to preach to anyone who gives him the time of day. I saw this guy as I was heading to lunch, and quickly went to get my camera. There was a large group of people around him arguing- I don't believe there was a single person who was on the same side as him.

Evil is Anything Against the Law of God

According to him, evil is anything that is against the law of God. As one listener pointed out, what exactly is the law of God? There were arguments about Lucifer and the Devil and whether or not God created evil. I stayed for about ten minutes snapping pictures, but after that, I couldn't take much more. Towards the end of the day, a large group gathered, the majority of the people yelling at him. I give him points for trying... but don't understand why all these people keep coming and preaching to us.

Raincoats for Dogs

Singing in the Rain

My mom got this raincoat for little Daisy from a local shop that sells accessories to pet lovers. She asked me to take some pictures of Daisy in the raincoat to send to the store as a thankyou to them. At first Daisy wasn't such a good model, she kept walking around trying to get back inside with the other dogs. But after a little while (and a little bit of bribery with treats) she began to sit still.

Polka Dot Cutie

I sat Daisy under the umbrella and she was very uncertain about it. She wasn't so sure about what it was and did not like sitting under it. However, with enough coaxing and enough treats, she was willing to sit under it. She has the most beautiful blue eyes and I love how the raincoat is the same color as them. Daisy is such a photogenic dog and I had lots of fun taking pictures of her!

Baby Jazmine

Little Smiles

My cowoker Becca had Jazmine in August, right when I left to school. She and I have been trying to organize the shoot ever since, and finally in January we were able to meet up. Jazmine is one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen! She was so precious and loved to smile. This was my first photoshoot of a baby and it went really well. Becca and I plan to meet again to take pictures of her and her husband with Jazmine.
2010

Beautiful Baby Eyes

Jazmine has such wonderful eyes. They are so big and beautiful, and seem to hold such knowledge, despite her young age. It's almost hard to look away from her gaze, her eyes are so powerful and captivating. Jazmine has her mother's beautiful eyes, and they look so much alike. When I go home again we are going to do some mother daughter shoots, and I'm sure the photos will reflect their similarities!

Bundle of Joy

This was one of the first pictures that I took of Jazmine. She wasn't so sure about me at first, but once the camera was up, it was as if she knew what was going on. I love how she is gazing up at the camera, she looks so beautiful. Jazmine's mom Becca is now pregnant again, and I can't wait to take pictures of the whole family when the baby is finally born!

London Calling

Night Driving

Over winter break my family and I went to London. We were walking around the city at night and enjoying the sights when we spotted this old car. I followed the car with my camera, acheiving the blurry lights in the background. I love how this car stands out amongs the rest, the one clear image in a blur of lights.
