Puppy Love

Love at first Lick

I love how happy my mom is with Daisy. She is so excited to have the new puppy around, especially one so loving as Daisy. Daisy just loves to be around people and give them little kisses.

Baby Blues

Little Daisy is so inquisitive and little. The football in the background is a small one, not even normal size. Compared to it she is still so tiny and precious. I love how this picture showcases the color of her eyes, so bright agains the white of her fur.

Bundles of Fur

Sisters/Troublemakers

The dog on the left is Lexi, another maltese who we've had for a year. This was Daisy's first day with us, and she and Lexi had an instant bond. They starting exploring around the house, and shortly after this picture was taken, little Daisy fell into the pond that they're by. I love how Lexi is almost grinning in the background, she's so happy that she has a new friend!

The Taste of Summer

Mango Salad

At my house we have a little garden in which we grow a few different kinds of vegetables. For lunch one day I went out to pick some mixed greens from the garden. I found mangos, walnuts, lobster, and goat cheese and made a delicious salad. I've been wanting to expand my food photography portfolio so I decided to photograph the salad. Unfortunately, the salad turned out to look better than it tasted because I didn't wash the lettuce off as well as I should have, so it was very gritty. But I do like how the picture turned out!

Summer Greens

After washing the lettuce from the garden, I placed it in the salad bowl to start preparing my lunch. I wanted to photograph the salad in different stages, and the lettuce just looked so fresh compared against the wooden bowl.

A Unique Landscape

Taking its Place

For Easter this year, my family and I met up in New York. I had never been to the city before, so I excitedly grabbed my film camera and my most fashionable clothes. We were walking down the street when I saw this building, a beautiful tall glass building, that had this tree that appeared to be growing out of it. I thought it was so interesting, that it almost looked like nature was reclaiming what was originally there.

Nature Within

My photography class recently had an assignment that was to find unique landscapes. It had been a rainy day, full of puddles, so mainly I was focusing on shooting the reflections in the puddles. However, as I was walking around trying to find more things to take pictures of, I saw the sun shining brightly on this car, creating a very dramatic reflection. I loved how the tree seemed to take over the entire car, not just the window.

Fashion Photography

Attention Getter

Shawna is one of my best friends from high school. We were hanging out at my house one day bored and I brought up the idea of having a photoshoot. I dressed her all up and set up a backdrop covering the front door. It was really fun to photograph her because she's such a wonderful person who has such a great personality that shines through the photo.

Fields of Gold

Marlin was also one of my best friends from high school. She was there when Shawna and I were doing the photoshoot, and this was one of my favorite photos of hers. I love how her hair looks in this picture and the beautiful golden tones of the picture.

Hands

Friendship

This picture was from a series of photographs for a class. I loved how this picture turned out, especially with the bracelets on the left hand, I think they really add a nice detail to the photograph. At first I wasn't expecting the lighting to turn out well because it was taken under fluorescents, however it ended up illuminating the hands perfectly.

Ballerina

A Secret in Store

Emily and I did a photoshoot at the rail yard in Santa Fe. This is my favorite picture of the whole bunch because the lighting is just so beautiful. I love the mystery that the train holds, almost as if some magical place exists within it.

Spring

High Drama

I saw this daffodil in my garden when I was out photographing one day and thought it was so beautiful. I love how the contrast makes the flower pop out of the picture, and the fact that the blades of grass create unique geometric patterns. I really like how the grass that was closer to the camera is out of focus, making a nice perception of depth.

Joker

My Brother

My brother had been the Joker for a superhero party. He was bored, as the party was for a bunch of adults thrown by my parents, and they just don't know how to party like us young folk. Anyways, he was on probably his fifth Coke (we're not allowed to have un-natural products) and hundredth bite-sized sandwich. I liked how this almost seemed like an ad for Coke, albeit a very disturbing ad, but the reds make the picture pop. I especially like the detail in the purple velvet. And although the mop that is on my brother's head is covering the majority of his eyes, the bit of them that you can see is a wonderfully piercing stare.

Boston

Street Art

This man was on the street in Boston making interesting pictures out of spray paint. He was so passionate about it and it was obvious that he loved making his art. One of my favorite things to do is take pictures of people in cities. I love catching people in their everyday lives. I especially like the movement in the man's hand from shaking the spray paint can.

Radiating Light

Notre Dame

I took this picture in Notre Dame last year on my trip to Paris. I had been playing with this effect for a while, and was happy with how this one turned out. It's done by taking a long exposure and zooming in while the shutter is open. The statue in the middle is the Virgin Mary, and I really liked how the beams of light made her seem so other-worldly.

Gap Ads

The Perfect Sweater

I call these pictures my Gap Ads because they remind me of those ads with crisp lighting and a plain background. This happens to be my favorite picture of the bunch. I love the expression on her face and how the hood is held up to accentuate it. I brought in a fan, which created the beautiful effect of her hair blowing. I love this photo.

Winter Days

Ali and Yazzie are some of my favorite models. They're such naturals in front of the camera and are such a joy to work with. I really like the angles in this picture, and the long lines of their arms. The arch in her back really makes the picture pop, adding a unique twist to the photo.

Farmhouse

In the Window

I took this photo while on vacation in Germany a few summers ago. Our car had started leaking, so we pulled over to check it out, stopping outside this farm. I loved the potted flowers in the corner, and how the light looked against the wooden slats.

Zozobra

Old Man Gloom

Although this may seem like a terrifying photo, to the special few, this is simply a great party. In New Mexico, the tradition of burning a giant marionette, Zozobra, is the start of fiestas, the week-long cultural celebration. The burning of Zozobra represents the release of gloom, and thousands of people come from all over the state to crowd onto the baseball field to watch. This was taken on my last night before leaving for college, and seemed like quite an appropriate goodbye.

Patisserie

A Tasty Treat

Ah, the French make the best food! I took this photo last year while in France. My dad and I were in the most delicious patisserie in the world, I believe for the second time that day. I took my first attempt at a food shot, and I think it was pretty successful. I hope to continue taking more food pictures, I think it's really fun, and yummy!

Porcelain Doll

Pretty Pink Ribbon

My friend has beautiful ringlet hair that always has reminded me of a doll's. We did a photoshoot where I dressed her up and did her makeup like a porcelain doll.
I was surprised with how beautifully this photo turned out. We were waiting to leave, and decided to take a few test shots while inside. The lighting ended up being so gorgeous and very flattering.

Through the Glass

Recently I've had a big fascination with reflection pictures. I loved how this picture turned out to be so expressive, even though it is distorted in many parts. Her one eye is so captivating, it draws the viewer into the photograph, yet does not overpower the overall image.

Seagulls

Into the Darkness

This was taken several years ago while on vacation in Australia. While walking along the beach at dusk, my brother and I saw some seagulls up ahead. I grabbed my camera and positioned it a little ahead of the group and pressed the button. Luckily, this bird flew right into the shot, my flash illuminating it and creating the shadow. Where the flash ends, the beach looks eerily dark and the bird's shadow itself looks much like the ill-fating raven.

A Fleeting Glimpse

This was also taken while in Australia, though in a different place than the other photograph. This was on the famous Bondi beach, in the morning when everything was fairly calm.
I took this photo with a simple digital camera, nothing fancy, and just happened to catch the perfect moment.
When looking at this picture, I feel a serene stillness come over me, as I too float freely through the air over the water.

Flowers

Wedding Photography

These flowers were in bloom in my garden back home and they reminded me
of a bridal bouquet. The soft lighting and antique hue reminds me a lot of wedding photographs, which led me to name the picture. Although I have not had many opportunities for wedding photography, I would like to continue pursuing it for I find the pictures to be so simple and lovely. Wedding photographs do not need to be "edgy" or "unique," they can simply be beautiful.
